Tóm tắt
A substantial body of literature has sought to identify and explain international flows of capital investment at the global level, whilst relatively less effort has been expended on the intra-national distribution of this investment. Moreover, the pioneering studies on the sub-national distribution of foreign direct investment (FDI) have concentrated on the case of Western economies (Glickman and Woodward (1988), McConnell (1990), and Ó hUallacháin and Reid (1992) for the United States; Hill and Munday (1992), Taylor (1993), and Collis and Noon (1993) for the United Kingdom; Thiran and Yamawaki (1995) for the case of Japanese Investment in the European Union; Andréosso-O’Callaghan (1996) for Japanese investment in France; Molteni (1997) for Japanese Investment in Italy). Much less attention has been conferred on the spatial distribution of FDI in the case of developing economies. In the case of Vietnam, and in spite of recent evidence of the uneven distribution of FDI within the country (IMF, 1996; US Embassy, 1996), research on FDI remains very much at the macroeconomic level. The authors would like to extend their great appreciation and thanks to many individuals for their guidance in the preparation of this paper, in particular: Bill Turley, Adam Fforde, Curt Nestor, Ray Feddema, Ray Mallon, Ari Kokko, VietVu, Prof. TT Nguyen (VECON), Thanh-Dam Troung, Chris Moore, Manama Williams, and Synnøva O’Gorman.
