The study investigates the challenges faced by Chau Phu High School students in learning English-speaking skills and explores strategies to overcome them. Using questionnaires and interviews with students and teachers, the findings reveal major linguistic, social, and psychological challenges such as limited vocabulary, poor pronunciation, and lack of confidence. Both groups applied social, memory, and affective strategies most frequently. The study emphasizes the need for more communicative activities and supportive teaching practices to enhance students’ speaking competence in rural high school settings
