    ELiPS-based Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption

    Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (CP-ABE) is a cryptographic technique that enables fine-grained access control in data encryption. Unlike conventional encryption schemes that rely on a single key for access, CP-ABE grants decryption privileges based on user attributes. However, the original CP-ABE scheme depends on the pairing-based cryptography (PBC) library, which provides only 80-bit security and suffers from computational inefficiencies. To overcome these limitations, we first integrated the Efficient Library for Pairing Systems (ELiPS) into the CP-ABE framework. ELiPS offers 128-bit security and optimized pairing operations, enhancing both security and performance. Due to structural differences between PBC and ELiPS, three adaptation procedures were developed to ensure compatibility. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that ELiPS-based CP-ABE significantly reduces setup, key generation, and encryption times compared to PBC- and MCL-based implementations, though it incurs an increase in decryption time. Second, two optimization techniques were proposed: minimizing final exponentiations and reducing inversions. These methods achieved a 45.5% reduction in decryption time compared to the initial ELiPS-based CP-ABE and a 53.8% reduction compared to PBC-based CP-ABE while maintaining a high-security standard. Further evaluations confirmed an overall 25.3% improvement in total execution time. This research demonstrates that ELiPS-based CP-ABE provides significant advancements in efficiency and security, making it a viable solution for secure data access control in cloud storage, the Internet of Things (IoT), and other modern cryptographic applications.
